Invisible Fusible Thread

To eliminate (what I consider) the drudgery of hand hemming in order to secure the raw edges from unraveling when you remove the web from the loom, simply use a shot or 3 of invisible fusible thread at the start and end of your pieces. Use more if you like but 3 picks should be sufficient.  Yes, it's that simple. Then fuse it according to the directions that come with the thread and you're in business.

It's not like glue or fusible web. Glue can take a long time to dry, doesn't hold up to washing and is stiff. Fusible web can get stiff at times too. Not with this stuff. It's exactly like using regular sewing thread except it's completely soft and invisible. It's like it's not even there!

Simply use it to seal the raw edges. I know from experience that it will hold up in a single wash with the rest of the household laundy (which gave it a thorough beating), but I have no experience beyond that. I always finish my pieces either with knotted/twisted fringe or a rolled hem after wet finishing (if it's not going to be cut up to make something else).

This is what it looks like. There are brands other than this, but I wanted you to see what it looks like. Phone your local fabric or craft store to see if they carry this kind of product. Not all stores do (not even the JoAnn's in my town!). If not, then you can get some from Amazon .

The raw edge straight out of the washing machine. This was done with the rest of the household laundry so you know it took a beating. It held.

The raw edges straight out of the dryer with the rest of the household laundry so you know it took even more of a beating. Still held.
